Simple Stovetop Rice

Don't have a rice cooker? No problem. You don't need one! Here is a foolproof way to make rice on the stove top.

Equipment

  • 1 stainless steel pot with lid medium

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Long grain rice
  • 1 ¾ cups Water
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Butter

Instructions

  • Rinse rice in a strainer.
  • Place in stainless steel pot.
  • Add water, salt and butter.
    All ingredients for long grain rice in heavy saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
    Stove top rice coming to a boil.
  • Boil for about two minutes, then reduce heat to low.
  • Cover and let cook for 30 minutes without lifting the lid.
  • When water is completely absorbed the rice is cooked.
  • Turn off heat and let stand until ready to serve.

Notes

Cook rice with a 1.75 water : 1 rice ratio. This recipe is easily multiplied to make for a larger crowd. Adjust salt to taste. Be sure to adjust saucepan size for larger quantities.
Variations: Add chicken bouillon or other seasonings for added flavour.
