Is your laundry not getting as clean as you want? Are there stubborn stains or lingering odors? Lisa Corbett, laundry attendant at Sun and Suds Laundromat, probably knows how to fix it.

Corbett has worked at Sun and Suds Laundromat for 11 years and has some tried and true solutions for your laundry problems.

Lisa Corbett knows laundry. There isn’t a laundry issue she won’t tackle.

Her favourite stain remover

Corbett was tasked with cleaning a white comforter that had yellowed around the edges. Her boss brought in OxiClean Max Force. She sprayed it on the yellowed edges and put it in the washer.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “It all came off. I love that stuff.”

If a simple spray and wash doesn’t get it clean, spray again and let it soak overnight, Corbett says.

Another favourite stain remover is Clorox Stain Fighter and Color Booster. It’s a colour-safe powdered bleach.

She adds a little water to it to make a paste, then rubs it on the stain. Another method is to dissolve the powder in a tub of water and allow the item to soak overnight, Corbett said.

Her favourite deodorizer

For smelly clothes, Corbett pours half a cup of hydrogen peroxide in with the load. It is colour safe and kills the odor.

“We used to do the laundry for the carnival crew and that’s what we did,” she said. “It gets the odor out.”

Washing machine maintenance

To prevent mildew build-up in the washing machine, put half a cup of vinegar and two tablespoons of baking soda in the washer and run a full cycle with hot water.

“It’s basically what you do when you have a clogged sink. It bubbles like a little volcano and kills everything,” Corbett said.
