Entrance Cleaning

Entrance

Your entrance is the first thing people see as they enter your home. It doesn’t need to be fancy, but there should be a place to hang their coat and put their shoes.

Make your own all-purpose cleaner and glass cleaner to complete the cleaning tasks below.

Things to do when cleaning and organizing your entrance:

Weekly cleaning

  • Dust tables, ornaments and pictures.
  • Shine mirror. If framed, spray cleaner on a lint-free cloth and then wipe mirror.
  • Organize coats and shoes.
  • Wash door handle and switch plate.
  • Wipe baseboards.
  • Vacuum and mop floors.

Detail cleaning

  • Wipe light fixtures with a damp cloth.
  • Wash door and door frame.
  • Wash walls.
  • De-clutter the closet. When the seasons change, switch winter coats, accessories and footwear for summer jackets, accessories and footwear and vice versa. Give away unwanted items.
    • Wash or dry clean and mend coats and accessories before storing.
    • Clean footwear before storing.
  • Clean shelves and walls of closet.
  • Wash shoe racks.
  • Clean area rugs.

Organizing suggestions:

  • For a formal entrance have a place for visitors to hang their coats. Keep the entrance bright, welcoming and free of clutter.
  • For a main entrance have a place for your keys, bins or shelves for accessories, a shoe rack and a place for everyone to hang their coat. It is very important to keep this area organized as it’s the “ready to leave” space. You don’t want to search for keys, gloves or a matching pair of shoes as you’re on your way out the door.

Happy cleaning!!
