Silver Polish

Compare silver after it has been in the solution and shined.

Silver, a precious metal admired for its lustre and reflectivity, tarnishes easily. Acid from your hands, sulfur from food, sunlight and where you store your silver can contribute to tarnishing. It’s inevitable. But it does not penetrate beyond the surface so it is not harmful to the silver.

Polish your silver with inexpensive household items.

Here’s how:

  • Put one litre (or one quart) of hot water in a sink or basin.
  • Dissolve one tbsp of baking soda and one tbsp of salt in the hot water.
  • If you need more solution, keep the same ratio. For every litre of hot water, add one tbsp of baking soda and one tbsp of salt
  • Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of the sink.
  • Lay the tarnished silver on the foil until tarnish is gone.

  • Remove items from the solution and dry with a flannel cloth.
