Apples – Embracing the Autumn Season

A basket of beautiful red apples.

“A plate of apples, an open fire, and a jolly good book are a fair substitute for heaven.”
— L.M. Montgomery

As the days begin to shorten and the crisp, cool air greets me in the morning, I am swept up by autumn’s enchanting splendor – the smell of woodstoves warming cozy living rooms, the sound of geese as they make their way south and the mystery of the fog hovering over the distant hollow.

A visit to the apple orchard keeps this enchantment alive as I walk up and down the rows of apple trees heavily loaded with beautiful red fruit and select the biggest and the reddest apples for my basket.

As I fill my basket with the crisp, juicy fruit, I think about all the wonderful treats I will make with them – apple pie, applesauce, apple betty.

The smell of apples, cinnamon and brown sugar cooking together will fill the kitchen with amazing autumn-ness, and I can hardly wait!
